Motivated

When I went to San Diego with my girlfriends last weekend (post coming soon), I was highly impressed with how cute and fit everyone looked. It got me thinking, I have definitely not been doing what I need to be doing to get the results I'm looking for. I started talking with some of the girls and it seems like there is one key ingredient, running. Running has always been my enemy. I have hated it since I was a little girl and quit soccer because I hated it so much. But, in talking with the girls I became determined to become a runner. My goal is to work up to running 3-4 miles 3-4 times a week. I haven't been able to run a mile straight since I can't remember when, but tonight when I went to the gym I took some of the advice I got from the girls and am proud to say that I ran one mile, walked .05 and then ran another .5 miles! It felt so good and I know now that I will be able to become a runner. I'm excited to one day look back and say, "I can't imagine life without running." I feel so good right now and know that feeling will help me stay motivated.

Good job! You will be able to run 3 miles in no time. I don't think I could run 3 miles, maybe I will try it.

It's funny, because the key ingredient I got out of our conversation was excercise+eating. No matter how much I'm excercising, it doesn't do anything unless I eat less, too.

YEAH!!! I completely agree. I think that I have told you that for most of my life hated running too. But something has happened in the last month I started to kinda like it. I started training for that mini triathlon a month ago and I have just started to be able to run 3 miles straight. Love you!!

I guess I already knew that you have to eat right too so the running thing just stuck out more to me. Plus, I think when you are working out harder you want to eat better.

I think running sucks the most because when you are out of shape it feels like your legs and feet are SO heavy. I ALWAYS start at the stairs stepper in the gym and then use running and then walking for a cool down. The stairs help with your butt and backs of your legs (says my old trainer/boyfriend). I knew I was getting something out of that relationship. Anyway. Great job! I also have an exercise goal and am glad we are on the same page.

This is great. I have the same wish. Good luck and I know you can do it! My goal when Avery starts preschool is to run 3-4 times a week but that requires me to wake up before the kids and go to the gym. I am not a morning person :) but that is the only time of they day I will be able to fit it in. Sorry for the long comment!

Em, I used to hate jogging so much. When I hate the two mile mark Joanna knew not to talk to me or else I would snap at her. That is AWESOME what you just did, do that several times a week and in three weeks you'll be able to do your three miles. Also, it helps to have a friend to do it with. Now I have to jog or else I get grouchy or chub-phobic, even though I look the same no matter what. I've been trying to count calories, but it kind of stinks. I think it's easier to do the exercise and it will naturally curb your eating just a little bit. Good luck and good job. You should seriously congratulate yourself for every small goal you meet when it comes to jogging.

That is so great! Goodwork Em, I am so proud of you! I meant to tell you during our conversatoin that when I first started running I could only run around the track once. Then my mom told me to try and increase by just a little bit everyday. After a few weeks I was running 2 miles 5x a week (this was in 7th grade) Ever since then I have enjoyed running and you will find your reason for loving it too! Again, great work! Keep us updated.

I used to be just like you. hated running. Then I too got motivated and set a goal to run a 10k. I did it and have run another 10k after the first. I think running gives you the best results for the time you put into it.
I still have the training schedule I followed and I was amazed at how quickly I improved. If you want me to give the schedule so you can follow it, just give me your email or find me at church.
I found when I ran I wanted to eat better and I craved healthy foods. It's so good.
I am just now trying to get back into it again and I am having a hard time trying to find the time.
I wish you luck. You go girl!!!
